Hello there, and welcome back to our blog! Here at Shredneck, we aren’t in the fashion business, we’re in the lifestyle business. No matter your chosen activity, making sure that you have the appropriate clothes to wear during your desired activity is important. If you’re out hunting you don’t want to wear a suit and if you’re trying to land a big catch out on your boat, you need clothing that will be able to keep you cool and dry at the same time. Even with winter fast approaching, the tropical climate we Floridians have come to know and love allows people to continue enjoying beach activities long into winter. One such activity, surfing, is an employee and customer favorite here at Shredneck. More than most other outdoor activities, surfing can quickly become an important part of a person’s life once they experience it for the first time. In today’s post, so that all of our surfing Shrednecks get a little love, we are going to go over some of the benefits that surfing offers. Continue reading to learn more!
Nurture Mind, Body, and Spirit
Humans are funny creatures. We spend an enormous amount of time and energy on tasks so that we can spend the remaining time doing things we actually want to do. Even though many people find pleasure and personal satisfaction from their job, it’s rare to find a person who does not like to take advantage of the small amount of free time that is available to them and do the things that make them happy. Surfing, a leisure activity that is popular in Florida, is one of the best ways, in our opinion, for people to spend their free time. Below, we have listed some of the reasons that we feel surfing is such an excellent activity.
Fitness: Unsurprisingly, surfers get quite the workout when they are out catching waves. Between the arm strength needed to paddle out into the surf, the leg strength needed to balance on the board, and the core strength to stay upright on the wave, surfers get a full body workout every time they step away from the shore. In addition to the muscular benefits that surfing provides, people who partake in this activity get a cardiovascular workout as well. This helps to increase the efficiency of circulation and provides surfers with increased stamina.
Improved Mental Health: In today’s age, most people understand that physical activity is one of the best methods a person can use to improve their mood. When people partake in physical activity, the brain releases a flood of endorphins, helping to not only make the physical activity more comfortable but also elevating a person’s mood as a side effect. While hormones play an important role in boosting a person’s mood, the simple act of being outside, doing something physical, and enjoying life to the fullest plays almost as important of a role.
Sleep Better: According to a study conducted by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, around 40 million Americans suffer from some form of chronic long-term sleep disorder each year. If this figure seems concerning to you, it is for good reason. When people are unable to sleep like they need to, it can have a major effect on multiple areas of life. Physical, emotional, and cognitive functions are affected greatly by lack of sleep and people who suffer from sleep disorders often report auditory hallucinations if they are deprived of sleep for a long enough period of time. While we aren’t saying that surfing is a clinically proven way to treat sleeping disorders, we are saying that it can help reduce the effects of these disorders. Taking part in physical activity, especially the type of activity that is required while surfing, works to exhaust the body beyond normal levels which, in turn, makes it easier for some people to sleep.
